In advance of the May release of Words That Matter: How the News and Social Media Shaped the Presidential Campaign, Jonathan Ladd spoke with Matt Grossman on his podcast The Science of Politics. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying media coverage of the 2016 presidential campaign and argues that this media coverage was a key contributor to Trump’s victory.

The book, which is now available for pre-order, is the culmination of the political communication project. Ladd’s co-authors include Leticia Bode, Ceren Budak, Josh Pasek, Lisa Singh, Stuart Soroka, and Mike Traugott, and Gallup Poll senior scientist (and former editor-in-chief) Frank Newport.
